Tangerine Tango was Pantone’s color of the year for 2012. You have seen it everywhere – from the clothes sported by models on the runway to street clothes on your favorite retail stores to makeup shades.
The year 2012 is a long time ago, but it is still undeniable the color orange is the color for all seasons. On spring and summer, the bright orange color went well with the brightness of the sun; and as fall is just around the corner, this color will add luminosity to the earthy tones that you’ll be wearing. This year, orange has made a comeback on the runway as our favorite designers have incorporated the bright color to the makeup of the models that sported their vibrant clothes.
Why orange lipstick?
It’s pretty simple. Orange looks good on almost everybody. Orange complements warm undertones and brightens up cooler undertones. Orange is also very mixable, which means that if you’re not up for the neon orange trend, you can still mix it with other colors and come up with your very own customized shade.
Now here are some helpful pointers on how to rock that perfect orange lip:
To school or work: Make an orange lip more wearable by trying lighter colors such as MAC’s Sheen Supreme Lipstick in Gotta Dash or Maybelline’s Coral Crush.
On a weekend: Add a touch of tangerine to your first date by wearing soft coral shades such as NYX’s Peach Bellini or Clinique Different Lipstick in Ripe Raisin.
Be bold and fearless: If you are the adventurous type, don’t be afraid to try wearing opaque neon orange on your lip. You will instantly notice the pump of energy it will bring to your face. A good contender would be Lime Crime’s My Beautiful Rocket lipstick and Illamasqua’s Flare Lipstick.
Take note that in rocking an orange lip color, your lips should be completely smooth and moisturized. Orange is a very bold lip color which makes a statement, so it is extremely crucial that you treat your lips with a medicated lip balm before applying. I would suggest something like EOS’s medicated lip balm in orange.
Pulling off a bright orange lip may seem very outrageous to you but you can still be on trend by wearing softer shades on the color palette. Another tip that you may like is to mix orange lipstick with a pale pink shade to create a peachy shade that will complement any skin tone.
